    TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

    GREETINGS!

1ST, MAY THIS E-MAIL SUBMISSION FIND Y’ALL WELL.

IN LIGHT OF THE (SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9TH,) 2017, CHARLESTON HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE IN CHARLESTON HARBOR (EXACTLY TWO MONTHS HENCE), I HAVE THREE QUESTIONS:

1.) @ PRECISELY WHAT TIME AND WHERE (ON SATURDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 9TH) WILL THE HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE COMMENCE?

2.) @ ABOUT WHAT TIME IS THE BOAT PARADE EXPECTED TO REACH THE EAST SIDE OF THE CHARLESTON CITY PENINSULA (IN THE COOPER RIVER AND CHARLESTON HARBOR)?

3.) WOULD IT EVEN BE POSSIBLE TO VIEW THE BOAT PARADE FROM THE FLIGHT DECK OF THE GREAT WORLD WAR II “FIGHTING LADY” AND AIRCRAFT CARRIER, U.S.S. YORKTOWN @ PATRIOT’S POINT IN MOUNT PLEASANT?

    PLEASE LET ME KNOW SOON!

    THANKS!

    MR. J. SHANNON HURLEY,
    CHARLESTON (WEST ASHLEY) RESIDENT

    • Mr. Hurley,

Thank you for your interest and note. Below are our attempts to answer your questions. If you would like further coairificaiton please contact me at CharlestonSquadronLaRue@gmail.com or the City’s representative, Ray Swagerty at SwagertyR@charleston-sc.gov or contact the parade Facebook Page:

      http://www.facebook.com/CharlestonBoatParade/

      1) While it is difficult to be precise, our plan is for the parade to commence between 5:00 and 5:10 once all participants are in place and the course has successfully been cleared of boat traffic and spectators.

      2) Below are approximate times we will begin to pass some of the best viewing areas. Patriots point (5:30), Mt. Pleasant Pier (6:10), Aquarium (6:30), Waterfront park (6:45), Battery (6:55). The best viewing along the battery face Patriots Point. Because of shallow water, vessels do not pass close to the southern edge of the peninsula/battery.

      3) While it would be possible to view the parade from the Yorktown flight deck (you would need to contact Patriots Point for information about their availability) the view would be less than spectacular. The parade passes fairly close to The Fighting Lady but well below the flight deck. To see our vessels spectators would need to look over the side of the deck, and would be looking down upon them.

I hope this helps. We will be posting the most up to date information on the facebook page above, but if you have further questions feel free to contact me or Ray via email above.
